Confidence states encoded in the provenance ledger
01 / The Challenge
No design pattern exists for objects that refuse a single category.
Esaiyo needed one product for assets with nothing in common structurally — a physical antique, a conceptual artwork, a digital file — and no established conventions to borrow from.
The user base split just as unevenly: professional archivists and historians on one end, casual collectors on the other, each with a fundamentally different mental model of what an object is.
02 / Our Architecture
A flexible IA that refuses to force a false hierarchy.
Our team ran expert interviews with historians and conservators alongside collector research. Rather than imposing a single taxonomy, we let each object's own structure define its presentation while sharing one navigation and interaction model platform-wide.
We anchored the Social Identity of Objects (SIO) to a persistence layer (Chain-C), decoupling historical state from single-chain limits and solving burned-and-lost provenance in marketplace migrations. A chronological behaviour ledger translates multi-chain transactions into human-readable entries, with a strict badge system — Observed, Implied, Derived, Hidden, Intended — signalling the confidence of every record.
03 / Systems Outcome
Structured documentation and storytelling in one product.
The platform shipped with complete experience parity: a split-pane desktop workspace for simultaneous graph exploration and data entry, and a progressive tabbed mobile structure that keeps high-density metadata actionable.
Emotional storytelling and rigorous provenance coexist without undermining each other — the specific capability the team needed entering Series A conversations.
